Library / Media library
The library at La Casa Encendida is an open space where we invite you to study, use the computers, listen to music, browse the collections, bring your children and take out books, films and albums, all completely free of charge. It’s a place to enjoy and research contemporary culture, conceived with an open-minded critical approach where we hope to develop the potential of literature and art as social spaces that encourage encounters and experiences.
Artists and writers involved in contemporary creation also come to the library to lead activities, workshops and different kinds of encounters designed jointly with La Casa Encendida and open to anyone interested in literature and art and their role in the present and the possible futures that await us. Since we firmly believe that culture should be more accessible, we strive constantly to ensure that this is genuinely the case. We currently provide reading stations, computers and adapted systems, and we welcome new conversations about the programme of activities, collections and accessibility with anyone who wants to share their thoughts with us.
The library is an evolving space and we are constantly adding to the catalogue. To date, the main resources are the contemporary art and comic collections, the Federico González jazz archive featuring over 20,000 items, and a rich selection of science fiction literature that includes some genuine and extremely rare sci-fi gems.
